State of the Map (SotM) conference is an international conference of OpenStreetMap (OSM), is held annually since 2007 (except 2015). There are many local and regional conferences named “State of the Map”. These conferences provide an excellent opportunity for networking and exchange of ideas among OSM volunteers, developers and other users.
This year, “State of the Map 2018“ is taking place from July 28th to 30th 2018 in Milan, Italy.
More specifically, the venue for SotM 2018 is Politecnico di Milano, which is the largest technical university in Italy. It was founded in 1863, and it is the oldest university in Milan. The venue, very fancy and antique, is part of the oldest complex of the university, inaugurated in 1927, which is located in Piazza Leonardo da Vinci.
The initial outline provided by SotM 2018 website is as follow:
- July 28th: first main conference day with presentations and discussions
- July 29th: second main conference day with presentations and discussions
- July 30th: activity day with code, documentation sprints, mapping and workshops
The conference page further says: “We plan to have two tracks of talks throughout the first two days, with the option to expand to three tracks for a half day of academic talks. Breakout rooms will be available throughout.”
Further, it is important to highlight that the Call for Proposal is open and a form is available on the website for this purpose. One can submit a proposal for a 5-minute lightning talk, 20 minutes talk, 75 minutes workshop or any other customized session. The deadline to submit the proposal is February 18, 2018.
