Advanced Webinar: Accuracy Assessment of a Land Cover Classification

NASA ARSET program has announced an advanced webinar training on Accuracy Assessment of a Land Cover Classification. If you are curious about ARSET program, a brief introduction was posted in our article Advanced Webinar: Data Analysis Tools for High-Resolution Air Quality Satellite Datasets.

It is widely understood aspect that satellite image classification and accuracy assessment are basic expertise often used in our projects in an academic and professional environment as well. Thus it is important for students, professionals, and researchers to acquire proficiency in satellite image classification and accuracy assessment. A separate training session has already been conducted by ARSET for Land Cover Classification with Satellite Imagery. Now this training will equip attendees to conduct an accuracy assessment on a land cover map and identify which classes might be misrepresented.

What is accuracy in Remote Sensing classified imagery?

In the context of image classification, the accuracy “measures the agreement between a standard assumed to be correct and a classified image of unknown quality.” (Source: PSU)

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this webinar, attendees will be able to:

  • Conduct an accuracy assessment on a land cover map
  • Understand how to create and use reference data
  • Become familiar with sample designs for accuracy assessment
  • Develop and interpret an error matrix and a Kappa statistic
